The Austrian Ambassador to Canada, Stefan Pehringer, signed a Working Holiday Programme with Canada on 30 October 2017. On the Canadian side, the joint declaration was signed by Natasha Kim, the responsible Director General.
Canada is now the ninth country with which Austria has concluded such a programme. As of 2018, Austria will therefore be among the top EU countries with regard to the number of concluded and effective WHP arrangements.
As a destination, Canada enjoys particular popularity. Through the Working Holiday Programme (WHP), young people between the ages of 18 and 30 can apply for a visa to get to know their partner country better. The WHP enables participants to finance their (holiday) stay abroad – at least to some extent – themselves, gather practical job experience in another country and benefit from the local educational facilities.
