The undisputed heavyweight of the city’s cultural festivals, the Wiener Festwochen draws artists and audiences from far beyond the city limits. With an ultracontemporary selection of artists and thinkers confronting matters of the here and now with stage shows and discussions, the Festwochen provides invaluable food for thought.
Among the highlights is the appearance of New Order, the legendary Manchester band that rose from the ashes of Joy Division. In collaboration with conceptual artists Liam Gillick the band will present its piece So It Goes…, performing some of its best-loved songs with a 12-piece orchestra of synthesizers. There is a plethora of free events to attend, which renders one’s absence pretty much inexcusable.
