Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl at the UN General Assembly in New York

For Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl, the week of the UN General Assembly in New York began on Monday, 24 September with a series of bilateral political talks. The focus of the first day was the meeting with Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), Nasser Kamel. In the course of the discussion, Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl underlined Austria’s support for the UfM’s activities. The countries in the Mediterranean region are important partners for Austria, particularly in view of the issues that the region has been facing for a number of years, including economic and social challenges and questions surrounding migration policy. The talks also touched on stabilising the region through initiatives such as the association and stabilization agreements as well as further strengthening the EU Trust Fund (EUTF) for Africa.
