Vienna, 7 January 2019 (OTS) – “The fight against human trafficking is an essential prerequisite to curb irregular migration, together with further strengthening the EU’s external borders and help on the ground”, said Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl. Austria has been actively supporting the global and effective fight against human trafficking for years. To this end, Austria has a close cooperation with the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) headquartered in Vienna. On 7 January 2019, UNODC’s “Global Report on Trafficking in Persons in 2018” was presented for the first time in Vienna.
“This year, we celebrate 40 years of the United Nations in Vienna. This anniversary underlines Austria’s commitment as host state and our acknowledgement of multilateralism. Presenting the report for the first time in Vienna instead of New York shows how important Vienna is as a competence centre for the fight against human trafficking”, stated…
